Phra Somdej Wat Rakhang is considered the king of Buddha amulets. Its purpose is to bless all living beings on this planet with good karma, provide protection against negative energies, strengthen personal relationships, and bring good luck to the wearer. Phra Somdej is one of the five "BenjaPakee" amulets. Its history begins in Thailand around the year 1800, when a very famous and powerful monk named Somdej Toh of Wat Rakhang created and consecrated what many Thais consider the most powerful amulet of all time. Most of these amulets have no eyes, nose, or mouth. The image of Buddha sitting on a three-tier throne represents the three-world system of Buddhist cosmology. Like other Thai amulets, Phra Somdej was usually made with sacred oil, earth, pollen, shell, and incense ashes, as well as relics from important monks. The materials were mixed and shaped during the consecration process in which the monks of Wat Rakhang chanted mantras led by Somdej Toh. |
